Kickboxer continues good form

Benoni kickboxer Ahmad Mahomed (16) claimed top honours in his category after bagging two gold medals during the 28th Hungarian Kickboxing World Cup, held in Budapest from June 15 to 18.

Fresh from a first-place finish in the eighth Turkish Open WAKO World Cup last month, Ahmad continued to hoist the South African and African flags with another dominant performance.

“He’s very dedicated and sincere in his training regimen. He was the only athlete from South Africa and the continent. Congratulations to him for keeping the WAKO African Continental flag high,” said South African Kickboxing Association president and owner of the United Martial Arts Kickboxing (UMAT), Shihan Aslam Mahomed.

According to Aslam, who is the WAKO Africa president, Ahmad is one of the top-ranked athletes in the kickboxing world cup series, placing fourth in the hard styles category and third in hard styles weapons so far in the series.

Ahmad will now shift his focus to the WAKO Intercontinental Challenge between South Africa and Canada later this month in Oudtshoorn and then will compete in the Flanders International Kickboxing Cup in Belgium in September.

Afterwards, he will travel to Venice to take part in the Italian Kickboxing WAKO World Cup from September 27.
