Lace up for Colgate Race

The race includes 32km, 15km and 4km events. It will start and finish at the Boksburg Stadium, with the bell ringing at 06:30.

The Boksburg Athletic Club (BAC) confirmed that the Colgate Race would take place on May 7 at the Boksburg Stadium.

After the success of last year’s event, the club said it’s looking forward to another successful event and hoping to attract lots of runners.

According to the club, each entrant will receive newly designed T-shirts, medals and the famous Colgate goodie bag.

Giving the Colgate Race a thumbs up are two runners who enjoyed being part of the hundreds who participated in the event last year.

Last year, Samuel Moloi won the men’s 32km after posting 01:46:30, while Kenyan Jennifer Koech clocked 02:11:53 to win the women’s race.

Benonian Kate van Jaarsveld won the women’s 15km, and the race’s veteran, Derocious Makhobalo, won the men’s half-marathon.

The race includes 32km, 15km and 4km events.

Kate van Jaarsveld won the women’s 21km at last year’s Colgate Race.

It will start and finish at the Boksburg Stadium, with the bell ringing at 06:30.

Route

The route will start on Jubilee Road, and runners will run towards Brakpan, turning off on Barry Marais Road. They will then turn into Van Wyk Louw Drive, where the first water point will be.

The runners will follow Van Wyk Louw Drive until they turn onto Heidelberg Road, where the second water point will be. They will then turn into Leeuwpoort Street and continue until they reach the third water point outside the Colgate premises.

Last year’s Colgate Race was packed with runners from all walks of life.

After Colgate, they will turn into Van Dyk Road for a short distance and then into Power Street, Brakpan Road, and Lonie Road (fourth water point) and continue until they turn into the stadium gates on Dudley Smith Road.

The 15km runners will run onto the stadium track to complete their run, while the 32km runners will continue out of the back stadium gates (a water point for the 32km runners will be here) and run another loop of the above route.

To add an extra 2km to the 32km race, the runners will do a loop in Boksburg South, running in the streets of Snyman, Dagama, Stanbury, Dick King, Walton and Dundee before joining the route of the 15km.
