Local kickboxers selected for nationals

This comes after the kickboxers impressed selectors at the Ekurhuleni Championships at Brakpan Indoor Sports Centre on February 25.

Five United Martial Arts International Kickboxing Club members have been selected to participate in the South African Kickboxing (SAKA) National Championships in Lephalale from April 28 to 30.

This comes after the kickboxers impressed selectors at the Ekurhuleni Championships at Brakpan Indoor Sports Centre on February 25.

“These athletes have been training hard to achieve astonishing results. We are pleased to see women in sports taking the forefront in kickboxing.

“We wish them all the best for the upcoming national championships,” said their instructor Aslam Mahomed.
He is the SAKA National Kickboxing president, WAKO Africa Continental president, as well as a WAKO IF board director.

Ahmad Mahomed, a student at Benoni Muslim School, made the team for point fighting, light continuous and kick-light in the junior male category.

Salaamah Mahomed from Summerfields Primary School was selected for point fighting, light continuous and kick-light in the younger cadet female category, while Saahirah Katz, also from Benoni Muslim School made the team for point fighting, light continuous and kick-light in the older cadet female category.

Husain Rahman from Tom Newby School made the team for point fighting, light continuous and kick-light in the younger cadet male category and Hannes Castelyn was selected for ring low kicks in the senior male category.
Ahmad, Salaamah and Hannes have made the national team previously.
