Ride for Sight back to normal

Online entries will open in early December. The date will be announced on www.retinasa.org.za in due course.

Retina SA has announced that the 34th Dis-Chem Ride for Sight will take place on February 19 at Boksburg Stadium.

Claudette Medefindt, head of science at Retina SA, explained that they are hoping for a bumper edition, especially with all the Covid-19 restrictions out of the way.

“We are pulling out all the stops to ensure this is the best Dis-Chem Ride for Sight ever. Next year we are hoping for a big field.

“We are also keeping entry fees low because of the financial situation in the country to allow in as many people as possible to enter,” said Medefindt.

Carla Oberholzer holds her trophy aloft after winning the women’s 116km race at the Dis-Chem Ride for Sight.

This year’s event attracted a large crowd of 2 480 cyclists.

The men’s 116km dash was won by Farrarmere resident and velodrome track expert Josh van Wyk while national champion Carla Oberholzer took first wheel in the women’s race.

The race, which has raised over R10m in its 32-year history, is organised by volunteers under the leadership of Retina SA. It aims to fight retinal blindness and process go to projects that find treatment for the disease.

Online entries will open in early December. The date will be announced on www.retinasa.org.za in due course.
