Tommy Gun to go pound for pound with Malawian Ajibu

The bout will be televised live on SABC 3 from 14:00. The gates open at 13:00

Thomas ‘Tommy Gun’ Oosthuizen returns to the squared circle on November 27.

The 34-year-old from Van Dyk Park will go hammer and tongs against Malawian Mussa Ajibu at the Carousel Casino in Hammanskraal.

Tommy Gun goes into this bout on the back of a TKO win against Limbani Lano – also from Malawi – last month.

The southpaw boasts 17 knockouts in his 30 wins, against three losses and two draws. His opponent’s CV looks uninspiring as in his 52 matches he won 29, lost 18 and drew five. Of the 18 losses, he lost 11 by knockout.

As much as this looks like a mismatch, this may be a good opportunity for the left-hander to continue getting his career back on track.

Once the biggest drawcard in Golden Gloves tournaments, winning several titles in the senior and junior ranks including the IBO and South African super-middleweight, Oosthuizen has been working hard to get in tip-top shape under his new trainer, Peter Smith.

According to his promoter, Jani Hebler, of 5th Element Promotions, his focus is on improving his rankings.

The bout will be televised live on SABC3 from 14:00. Gates open at 13:00.
