Young gymnast’s future looks bright

"Her achievements stem not only from her passion for gymnastics but from hard work, constant dedication and passion."

Fresh from being awarded the most improved gymnast trophy at the Eagles Tumbling Club competition on November 5, local gymnast Zuri Taylor is proving to be a force to be reckoned with on the floor.

With just under a year as an active gymnast, whether doing flips on the mat or rolling on the bench, the six-year-old is a dedicated warrior always eager to improve.

From turning her garden into a gym, Zuri has put in the hours to perfect her craft.

“She has loved gymnastics from a very tender age, making up her own gymnastics routines everywhere she went.

“She was doing cartwheels and roly-pollies the whole garden full. She wanted to do gymnastics with her whole heart,” said her mom, Tanya.

It was a match made in heaven when she was introduced to the Eagles Tumbling Club owner, Cindy McCall-Peat at the beginning of the year.

“Cindy has been phenomenal,” added Tanya.

Since joining the Eagles, Zuri has competed in several competitions including the national championships and Ekurhuleni Games, scooping medals in tumblenastix, benchnastix and trampnastix.

Following her heroics at the regional games, she was awarded her SAaerialnastix Gauteng colours for benchnastix and trampnastix.

Zuri made a mark nationally on October 15, placing second for benchnastix and third for trampnastix at the South African Championships.

“Little Zuri is a ball of fire. She now teaches gymnastic routines to all her friends.

“All of Zuris’s achievements stem not only from her passion for gymnastics but from hard work, constant dedication and passion.

“Her coach Kayleigh Young always motivates her and gives her a pat on the back for a job well done,” commented Tanya.

Kayleigh believes Zuri will only get better if she continues working hard.

“This little gymnast is going places in 2023,” she said.
