Local wrestler attains personal best finish at nationals

He competed in the freestyle president's schools 38kg category

Benoni resident Ben Oosthuizen claimed a respectable fifth place finish at the South African Youth and President National Wrestling Championships held in Stellenbosch, which took place from October 6 to 8.

Representing the Ekurhuleni Wrestling Association, Ben competed in the freestyle president’s schools 38kg category, achieving a personal best finish.

Along with four other members from Primrose Wrestling Club, or the Raptors at they are affectionately known, won two gold medals and three bronze.

The Raptors were also represented by referee Hannes van der Merwe, who was one of the officials at the championship.

“We congratulate all wrestlers that competed at the nationals. All our opponents are great athletes and we highly respect them,” said Raptors coach Jaco Vorster.
