Comrades Marathon 2023 race date

CMA has submitted an application to KwaZulu-Natal Athletics (KZNA), for next year’s Comrades Marathon to be hosted on Sunday, June 11.

The Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) has announced that it is amenable to the provisional race date for next year’s Comrades Marathon.

CMA chairperson Mqondisi Ngcobo said: “After the success of this year’s 95th Comrades Marathon, runners have been eagerly enquiring about next year’s anticipated race date.

“The board recently met and have declared that they are amenable to the race date of June 11, as circulated by Athletics South Africa (ASA) in a draft national fixture list on August 15.”

This year’s Comrades Marathon is a down run from Pietermaritzburg to Durban.

Ngcobo said that the CMA has applied to KwaZulu-Natal Athletics (KZNA) for next year’s Comrades to be hosted on June 11.

Once approval of the June date is confirmed by KZNA and/or ASA, details of the entry process, qualifying criteria and other race information will be revealed at the official media launch, the date of which will be announced in due course.

The CMA board’s strategic focus is to sustain the Comrades as the beloved, 101-year-old, iconic, national institution of a race.

The world’s biggest, oldest and most famous ultramarathon is part of South Africa’s heritage and is symbolically and economically critical to the sport of athletics in KwaZulu-Natal and South Africa.
