SB Decryptors invited to robotics world champs

The Willowmoore High School robotics team are Millan Murowanidzwa, Luke Chetty, Beyonce Magagula, Sharon Sithole, Kellina Mariquele, John Tshibambe and Muhammed Yusuf Ally. With them are educators and mentors Taryn Kata and Sagree Moodley. Absent: Zainaz Hansa, Dinal Nagar and Abdullah Suliman.

The Willowmoore High School’s robotics team, SB Decryptors, have been invited to the VEX Robotics World Championship by the Robotics Education and Competition (REC) Foundation in Dallas, USA, next year.

The team recently participated in the Pan African Robotics Competition (PARC) in Senegal. They obtained third place in the stars league after building a robot and drone that eased climate change challenges.

It was their performance in Dakar that earned them an invite to the global showpiece.

“The REC Foundation has partnered with PARC to promote STEM education globally. Based on the SB Decryptors’ performance at the event in Senegal, the REC Foundation is pleased to invite the Willowmoore High robotics team to the world championship,” the REC said in a statement.

The event will take place from April 25 to 29.
