Women’s committee on a drive to help female athletes

“We want to get to the bottom of why there’s a gap in sports participation."

The Central Gauteng Athletics women’s committee donated hygiene packs and sanitary towels to learners of Lekamoso Secondary School in Etwatwa on August 31.

According to the committee’s chairperson, Vinny Manaka, they started this drive to attract more girls to athletics.

“As the CGA women’s committee our 2022 objective is to ensure that we develop the girl child and in our bit to fulfil this, we have launched a drive to collect hygiene products and sanitary towels from our members to be able to hand these out to female learners at schools. Beneficiaries have been identified by our development clubs.

“We want to get to the bottom of why there’s a gap in sports participation. We want to ensure that we achieve holistic wellness for a girl child,” said Manaka.

The donated products include sanitary pads, tampons and cosmetics.

“The day was successful and the girls were happy. This was our second school in Women’s Month and we aim to reach a lot more of the schools where we can impact the lives of the girls who participate in sports at the school level,” Manaka concluded.
