EGBA selects U13 team for nationals

The team was selected following the EGBA’s U13 regional tournament at John Barrable Hall on June 18.

The Eastern Gauteng Badminton Association (EGBA) has selected a team of four boys and four girls to represent the region at the national U13 open and inter-provincial tournament in Durban from July 10 to 16.

The team was selected following the EGBA’s U13 regional tournament at John Barrable Hall on June 18.

The boys’ team will be made up of Adrian George, Jordan van Tonder, Xaviahn da Silva and Oliver Adams, while Refiloe Tshabalala, Aradhana Gopal, Progress Mahlangu and Chelsey Orr made the cut for the girls’ team.

“The tournament was a big success and even attracted children from Alberton, Wanderers and West Rand clubs. The players enjoyed it thoroughly and we will definitely be hosting tournaments like these more often.

“The team that we have selected are children that have never played at provincial level before. They have been training with us for about a year now, so no expectations at the nationals as it would be their first tournament.
“We’re hoping to gain some experience and measure up against the other provinces and then come back to build on that,” she said.

“The EGBA invites children of all ages who would like to see what badminton is about and try it out to join us at the opening of the Shuttle Stars Badminton Club at John Barrable Hall on Friday at 14:00 until 18:30.”
