Old Bens reserves thrash Sporting

Thabiso Makgoba, Lindo Ndlovu, Brandon Smith and Kaylum Jordaan grabbed the goals that handed their team the win.

Old Bens’ reserve team recorded an impressive 4-0 win in their Easterns Super League match against Sporting at Currin Park on May 28.

Thabiso Makgoba, Lindo Ndlovu, Brandon Smith and Kaylum Jordaan grabbed the goals that handed their team the win.

The first half was a dull affair as none of the teams looked threatening. The heat was in the middle of the park, with none of the keepers tested.

The second-half action was pulsating as midfield maestro Thabiso Makgoba kept Bens in the game. His footwork and ability to read the game gave his team an edge.

Old Ben’s Kaylum Jordaan nearly collides with the Sporting goalkeeper.

Makgoba opened the scoring with a stunner against the run of play following a well-executed counter-attack. He got the ball on the edge of his box, made his way in the Sporting half and unleashed a thunderbolt that went into the far post.

Ndlovu doubled the scoring deep into the second half. Bens’ left-back brilliantly stopped a Sporting attack and cleverly passed the ball to Khopotso Kholoane who unleashed a defence-splitting pass to Ndlovu to tap in to score.

Substitute Smith put the game beyond the opposition’s reach with a sublime shot to make it three. Jordaan rounded off the scoring.

Benoni Northerns’ reserve side also won their tussle against Olympia. They won the match 3-1.
