SASHOC releases dates for 2022 national hockey events

The full calendar is available on the SASHOC website, where more details about the events will be released in future.

The South African Schools Hockey Association (SASHOC) has released its calendar for national and regional competitions, which would see the events making their return after a two-year hiatus.

The pandemic and measures to curb the spread of Covid-19 disrupted the sport, leading to the cancellation of the national and regional schools’ events in 2020 and 2021.

South African life is returning to pre-pandemic levels after the government lifted the state of disaster, which meant young players would once again have unfettered access to the hockey fields.

SASHOC announced the dates for this year’s national hockey events, which will see the return of these competitions for the first time since 2019. To add to the excitement an international u-18 boys’ and girls’ series against Namibia will be played during the u-16 national week.

“SASHOC is delighted to publish the dates for the 2022 season and look forward to successful events being hosted around the country,” said SASHOC chairperson Wendell Domingo.

“Excitement is building in the South African school’s hockey community, and we are encouraged to see that the pandemic has done little to curb young players’ enthusiasm to take up the sport.”

Building on the lessons from events and matches held since our return to the pitch, SASHOC will stage national and regional events during June and July.

The Boland will be the picturesque setting for the u-18 and -u16 national events for both boys and girls.
The u-18 events will run from June 26 to July 1, while the u-16 competitions will be hosted between July 8 and 13.

The regional events will be held for u-12, u-13, u-14, u-16 and u-18 age groups across the country.

Domingo said SASHOC looked forward to once again welcoming the school’s hockey community to our events and creating a platform for young players to demonstrate their talents and express their passion for the sport.

The full calendar is available on the SASHOC website, where more details about the events will be released in future.
