A derby for SuperSport Soccer School

The second half was an interesting affair that saw both teams really going for the jugular.

Recently, at the SuperSport Soccer School based at the Benoni Country Club, an enthralling battle took place between the Thursday League log leaders Real Benoni and title contenders Athletico Benoni.

Real Benoni took home the three points to cement their lead in the league.

The organiser and manager of the event Kamo Gobela right before the game said, “The Benoni Derby is a platform to showcase talent but more importantly to build a healthy lifestyle through sport. We are grateful to Benoni Country Club and SuperSport for the opportunity to host the Benoni Derby at such an amazing venue.”

The two teams currently in positions one and four in the Thursday League gave fans a thrilling, high paced show with both teams really going for the win.

Real Benoni’s goalkeeper Tsholofelo Lerumo won the much-coveted man of the match award for his plethora of saves against the Athletico’s attacking forces Pallo Gobela, Tshepo Moshia and Bongane Macingwane.

Athletico’s defence was, however, no match for the smooth and elegant real counter-attack that saw Sipho Ndaba and Sbusiso Kananda scoring three goals in quick succession.

Athletico was not to be denied and applied pressure that saw Tshepo Moshia complete a classic Athletico move with a brilliant goal.

“I turned the last defender and saw the keeper rushing towards me. My instinct was to dribble past him and once

I saw him on the ground, I kicked the ball into the top corner for a goal,” said Moshia.

The second half was an interesting affair that saw both teams really going for the jugular.

It was a highly intense half, filled with goals from Sego Modubu, Lebohang and Sipho Ndaba.

Both teams were relentless but Real Benoni had the final say with a cracking winner from Sbusiso Kananda.

Speaking to Sibusiso after the match, “Taking three points is always exciting, we came prepared and the results showed on the day. I give credit to Athletico, they really made it difficult for us,” he concluded.
