SPAR South Rand Charity Golf Day raises R200 000

This year’s charity event benefitted two charities namely Amcare and the Khulani Early Childhood Development Centre.

This year, the annual SPAR South Rand Charity Golf Day made it possible for two deserving charities to receive R100 000 donations each.

October 28 started as a cold and wet morning. However, this did not dampen the spirits of the 108 golfers who were eager to participate in the 2021 SPAR South Rand Charity Golf Day.

Due to the 2020 event being postponed because of Covid, participants and sponsors alike were eager to flex their hearts and muscles at the prestigious Ebotse Links Golf Course in Benoni. In no time, the sun also came out to play.

Thanks to MC Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp and entertainment by comedian Riaad Moosa, everyone enjoyed the day.

This year’s charity event benefited two charities: Amcare and the Khulani Early Childhood Development Centre.
Charleen Goschen, marketing director of SPAR South Rand, it is important for them to share their resources with various community projects that truly look after their communities.

“There are so many NGOs and NPOs that are desperately trying to look after their communities. Both Amcare and Khulani are great organisations, and we are proud to support them and their causes. In the case of Khulani, we agree that children are our future and we need to take care of them. Amcare’s mission to help destitute people of all ages, is also close to our hearts since people are struggling to feed their families right now,” said Goschen.

Amcare is a NPO dedicated to the needs of all people made vulnerable due to poverty, those infected and affected by HIV/Aids, domestic violence and advanced age. Their reach extends from Greater Alberton, Eden Park, Phola Park, Greenfields and Thokoza.

Amcare GM Marihet Infantino thanked SPAR for the generous donation and said it came just as the shelter is starting to fill up.

“This is our busiest time of the year and the generous donation from SPAR is greatly appreciated. We hope to bring Christmas joy to those in need and to further our mission of supporting all those who knock on our doors with hope, knowledge, counselling and skills-training that could better their lives.”

Heather Garrett from Khulani expressed her gratitude by thanking SPAR South Rand and suppliers for their ongoing support.

“As with previous year’s, we will use the funds for operating costs to ensure the doors of Khulani remain open for our young learners. We have come to understand the meaning of the saying “when times are tough, friends are few” over the past two years. We thank SPAR for being this friend to Khulani as they continue on this journey with us through tough times.”

Khulani aims to provide a nurturing environment, taking into account the educational, nutritional, spiritual and social needs of approximately 48 children aged between three and five in Diepsloot.
