Club sails and salutes

Recently, the Benoni Sailing Club hosted its opening cruise, during which the sailors sailed past the commodore and saluted him.

David Cutts is the commodore, and his duties include setting the overall annual committee agenda (consistent with the views of the members), helping the committee prioritise its goals and then keeping the committee on track by working within that overall framework.

Cutts also chairs committee meetings and directs its activities, responsibilities and duties.

“It is a tradition of the Benoni Sailing Club that the opening and closing sail of every season, we have a ‘sail past’, where the sailing members sail in a line and salute the commodore,” said Dudley Thomson, member of the Benoni Sailing Club and promoter at the club.

It was also the first race of the 2021/2 season.

There were three races on the day and the winners were as follows:

First race: Dudley Thomson

Second race: Grant Handson

Third race: Dudley Thomson
