Be a Sport!

Clubs, don’t forget to send us your wish list.

The City Times has already collected from two collection points after being informed of the overflowing amount of donations the project has received thus far.

The project was launched and named Be a Sport!, with the initial aim being to collect used and new sporting equipment for less fortunate clubs in Benoni.

Find a BCT donation box here:

• Benoni Northerns Sports Club, 1 Brodigan Street, Northmead

• Benoni Country Club, Morris Avenue, Morehill

• Benoni Lake Club, corner of Edward and Divot streets, Benoni

To keep the boxes from becoming too full and the donations safe, each week a representative from the City Times will collect the donations for secure storage until we hand them over to the clubs.

The Daveyton Golf Club is one of the first less fortunate clubs to have sent through their wish list.

In terms of the sport itself, they are asking for golf bags, golf shoes, irons, woods and golf carts.

In terms of maintenance of the club, they are asking for sledge, cups, flags and any maintenance equipment they could put to use.

They have also asked if anyone has a second-hand laptop or computer they are no longer using and am willing to donate for their admin purposes.

For other ideas on what the clubs desperately need, you can follow our story online, as each week we will post a wish list from some of our less fortunate clubs.

Remember, if you are donating pairs of socks or other clothing items, kindly donate enough for a team (cricket – 11 players, for example) and to the clubs, don’t forget to send us your wish list.

Donations opened on July 16 and the project will run until August 18.

If you are a Benoni sports club or team which needs help and can benefit from our collection of used and new sporting equipment, email the name of your club, a contact person and contact details, along with your wish list to jemmap@caxton.co.za before August 18.
