Landsman stated her most disappointing moment of the tournament was how quickly it ended.

“We flew from Johannesburg to Cape Town on December 12 and were taken to The Capital Hotel. The next day my team went to train at Six Gun Grill Newlands Stadium, where I learnt a great deal from my teammates.

“I learnt how some of the best in the world get themselves ready for the matches and what it feels like to train alongside them.

“I was fortunate enough to train and play alongside the likes of Laura Wolvaardt. I learnt so much.”
The next day they played their first game.

“I bowled out Protea Faye Tunnicliffe, breaking the partnership between her and Suné Luus, who is also a Protea,” said Landsman.

“I was fortunate enough to experience my first game at Newlands Stadium, where we went on to win the game.

“The next day I didn’t play, but was able to sit, watch and learn so much from the side. It was a great time for me to just be able to take it all in.”

On the last day Landsman opened the bowling and took three wickets for 10 runs in four overs.

“One of them was Protea batter Trisha Chetty,” she said.

“We won the last game. Although we started on the backfoot, we fought our way through to an incredible win.”
Landsman walked away with an award that she will hold close to her heart forever.

“I won most economical bowler of the tournament but the biggest win was my team winning the first leg of the league 3-0,” she said.

According to this hardworking 16-year-old, the tournament was an incredible experience and she loved every minute of it.

“I learnt so many valuable things and spent time with some of my heroes,” she explained.

“There were so many memorable moments, but my favourite was probably my first WSL wicket. Everyone on the team was just as ecstatic as I was and were so supportive and happy for me.

“It was an incredible feeling.”

“The next step towards my desired future is to keep working hard and to hopefully get selected again for the second half of the tournament in March, which will take place at Imperial Wanderers Stadium,” she explained.

“I would like to give a huge thanks to my parents and my sister, who unfortunately couldn’t come watch due to the Covid-19 restrictions but watched every moment of each game as it was live-streamed through YouTube and PitchVision, for their continuous love and support.

“I would like to also thank everyone else who tuned in to watch the games and supported us from home as well as a big thank you to my coach, Adele van Eck, for all the long hours and coaching she has put in getting me ready for moments like this.”

If you are thinking of pursuing a future in cricket and would like to one day be just like Landsman, here is some advice from her to you.

“Go into the tournament and just enjoy yourself. It’s not an opportunity you get every day to play among and against some of the Proteas, so give it your best, but most importantly remember to take it in and enjoy each moment along the way,” she concluded.
