Academy bringing sport back

All teams entering the tournament will receive a kit for their school sporting code.

Due to the same trend of sporting activities not being allowed to take place due to a rise in Covid-19 infections, Aelen Management, a Benoni sports academy, has decided to host a competition between schools to keep sports alive.

“Schools can sign up for the competitions and pay a cost per team they involve,” explained Michael Murerwa, event organiser.

“Schools will select their team of 20 players, and the teams will not travel.

“Aelen Management staff will travel to the schools as it is safer for the learners not to travel in a bus exposing each other to the virus.”

Basketball tournament a success

The competition will take place in the following way:

• Basketball teams will participate in a shoot-out contest, under a specific time frame. The team with the highest three point shots wins the competition.

• Cricket teams will bat and field against a bowling machine. The team with the highest runs and catches wins.

• Soccer teams will take free kicks in different areas on the pitch. The team with highest goals wins the competition.

“Positions on the podium, meaning first, second and third place will receive the grand prizes,” he said.

“All teams entering the tournament will receive a kit for their school sporting code.

“Teams would need to sign up first in order for the success of the events and for us to reach the target amount of schools.”

Each event will run over a period of two and a half months, scores and footage will be uploaded on Aelen

Management website and the winners will be announced a week after events are completed.

“All proceeds will go towards acquiring and making the event programme possible,” Murerwa said.

“It’s a great initiative considering parents have raised concerns on why they should pay full fees if their children are not participating in sport which plays a key role in health, growth and development.

“This eases the pressure on schools and parents in many ways.”

Prizes to be won:

• Shooting machines

• Kits

• Personalised sneakers

• Hoops and rings

• Caps

• Arm sleeves

• Bowling machines

• Cricket apparel

• Soccer boots and training accessories.

“We are hoping 2021 will not be like 2020, where matrics were not able to enjoy the benefits of sports and showcase their talent in their preferred sporting disciplines.

“Dreams, hopes and enthusiasm for sport were lost and only left lower grades hungry and itchy for 2021 sports activities. We are hoping to bring this love of sport back to the higher grades through this competition,” Murerwa concluded.

To enter/sign-up for the competitions and receive full details and costs, schools may contact Aelen Management on 011 420 2477 or email either info@aelen.co.za or michael@aelen.co.za

Competitions will start as soon as schools sign up and restrictions are eased with dates to be announced.
