Gradings not impacted by lockdown

Belt ranks go by the name kyu, which in Japanese means “class”.

The Crystal Park Dojo had their gradings just before the lockdown came into affect.

As a result, they could not award the grading certificates to the students as they trained using Zoom until they were only able to resume in August.

“We started up again after the full compliance of the Covid regulations, as required by Karate South Africa and Gauteng Karate Federation, were implemented,” explained sensei Louis Ramakulukusha.

Belt ranks go by the name kyu, which in Japanese means “class”.

When a student joins a dojo, they are given a white belt and classified as 10th kyu, which means “no rank”.

Students who passed their kyu gradings:

• Maurice Prout: first kyu (brown belt)

• Lunga Mayisela: ninth kyu (white belt)

• sensei Louis Ramakulukusha: sixth dan (black belt)

• Unity Mudjodzi: fourth kyu (purple belt)

• Mangaliso Sesing: one strip (red belt)

• Thabiso Masogo: seventh kyu (green belt)

• Seth Mudjodzi: one strip (red belt)

• Oratile Marumo: seventh kyu (green belt)

• Ockert Winter: one strip (red belt)

• Siyabonga Sikhosana: seventh kyu (green belt)

• Ziyanda Sikhosana: fifth kyu (blue belt)

• Ntokozo Ntuli: fifth kyu (blue belt)
