Last chance at qualifying for the finals is gone

The Men’s pro division was a fight to the end with the top eight going into a double elimination round with a winner/loser pool.

The last chance to qualify for the South African Long Drivers competition finals took place on November 14 at the Grasslands driving range in Benoni.

All the big guns and well-known faces came out to take part in the semi-finals, all leading up to the SA finals.

After five rounds of qualifying, all divisions had their knockouts and winners were as follows:

• Senior Pro Division: Jason Lee Cook.

• Senior Amateurs Division: Jaco van Deventer

• Amateurs division: Nico Smuts

“Ladies did not compete as most of them are on the Sunshine or European tours but will be attending the finals,” said Stephan van Zyl, owner of Grid Pro Longest Drive.

The men’s pro division was a fight to the end with the top eight going into a double elimination round with a winner/loser pool.

Not losing a match all day, Thorne v Zyl and Jason Cook found themselves in the winners’ pool and had to fight it out for top honour of the LCQ event.

Jason, winner of the last event, had something to prove coming up against the ever-challenging Thorne v Zyl who currently leads the race to SA finals.

Thorne, going for his fourth Order of Merit Title, beat Jason Cook in an exciting final and not only claiming the day but also winning the 2020 Order of merit title.

Join in on the fun and excitement by attending the finals which will take place on December 5 and 6 at the Grasslands Driving range.

“Come see SA’s longest hitters of a golf ball and cheer on your favourite player for one last time this year,” said van Zyl.
