Bowlers back on the greens

The format of play is strictly singles or pairs and the rinks have been spaced out to allow distancing between players

Benoni Country Club (BCC) reopened bowls on July 24 for their first Saturday league game.

In order to allow play to resume BCC had to appoint compliance officers, trained by Ekurhuleni Bowls, and they are: Gary Brown, Cheryl Patterson, May Homer, Jeanne Woodman, Andy Wright, Leigh Austin and Sam Herzfield.

The format of play is strictly singles or pairs and the rinks have been spaced out to allow distancing between players.

Games need to be booked in advance to manage the numbers.

Currently they can accommodate a maximum of 20 players per green and have three greens available.

Playing sessions are on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.

“It’s fantastic to be back on the greens after such a long layoff. Well done to chairperson of bowls Terence Stopforth and his committee in making this all possible,” said Craig Botha, BCC’s top bowler.

Stopforth said: “Thanks also goes to Darren Millington, CEO of the club, for all his hard work in keeping the greens in such fine condition during the lockdown.”
