Cyclists urged to stay fit and healthy at home

It is important that all cyclists adhere to the president’s request; this is their only hope to overcome the tragedy South Africa are faced with

The Pedal Power Association (PPA), South Africa’s largest cycling organisation with more than 12 000 active members, supports government’s call for a total lockdown.

“We know cyclists are frustrated that they cannot take to the roads for the next three weeks, but as a nation we now need to stand together to stop the spread of the Covid-19 virus at all costs,” explained Rens Rezelman, chairperson of the PPA.

“As avid cyclists, it is extremely frustrating to all of us to not go cycling, but we all have a responsibility towards our families, friends and fellow South Africans to strictly adhere to the government’s announcement of lockdown which includes recreational outdoor sport, effective from midnight on March 26.

“Remember that all sport and recreational activities across the globe are effected by the Covid-19 virus and cyclists just have to wait this one out.

“Government cannot make exceptions to the rule and the PPA cares about the health and safety of all cyclists.

“Take out your trainers and stay fit at home.

“Let’s stay off the roads and make a worthy contribution to winning this battle against this virus,” Rezelman said.
