Training hard for the Dusi

The race was 66km long with sections in which they had to run carrying their boats as part of the endurance training.

Benonians Michael John Robb and Liam Stewart recently enjoyed a two-day training opportunity on the Klip River in preparation for the upcoming Dusi Canoe Marathon, placing third in a time of 4:09.

The river race started in Daleside south of Johannesburg and finished in Meyerton under excellent conditions – warm, sunny and good water flow after the recent rains.

The Dusi Canoe Marathon, which takes place from Pietermaritzburg to Durban annually, is the world’s toughest canoe endurance event with 120km of racing over three days, which includes running with boats over hills and through bush, as well as paddling through major rapids and white water technical challenges.

This year the Dusi takes place from February 27 to 29.
