Bokke celebration kicks off Benoni Premier League

The Belgravia Hounds are currently the team to beat.

The Benoni Premier League (BPL) kicked off again on November 8 at Benoni Action Sports Centre and will see 80 of the top action cricket players in Gauteng vie for the title over the next three months.

The league, which was first launched last year, is run by arena manager Christine Straussner and was the brainchild of George Viviers Junior, who is a BPL player.

Benoni BPL teams are: Jägermeister Jaguars, Tequila Turtles, Bacardi Boars, Pushkin Pandas, Absolut Gorillas, Potency Panthers, Red Heart Rhinos and Belgravia Hounds.

According to Christine, the team to beat, which is currently on the top of the log, is Belgravia Hounds. Pushkin Pandas are in second place and Bacardi Boars are in third place.

On the evening of the BPL launch Benoni Action Sports Centre hosted a Springbok-themed evening, inviting guests to dress up as fans or as one of the players to celebrate their Rugby World Cup win.

Spectators and teams came dressed up and enjoyed a night filled with Springbok fever and action cricket.

There were even a few of the players that dressed as Faf de Klerk.
