Local rider takes top honours at SANESA Champs

The multi-talented 17-year-old rider is based at the Leopard Creek Equestrian Centre in Zesfontein, Benoni, and falls under the tutorship of two dedicated trainers – Dave Miller (show jumping) and Phillipa Terblanche (dressage).

Michaela Janse van Rensburg on her horse, Oliver, took top honours by winning the overall Victrix Ludorum for all high school riders (all disciplines) at the annual South African National Equestrian Schools Association (SANESA) National Championships at Misty Meadows, Pretoria East, recently.

She competes in high-performance equestrian disciplines, such as dressage, show jumping and equitation.

During the week-long nationals, the riders competed in 14 diverse equestrian disciplines and showcased 1 345 entries in the Core League alone, with 480 horses from all nine provinces.

The Grade 11 Curro Serengeti learner performed consistently throughout the entire year in the SANESA school shows and is also part of the Ekurhuleni regional team in no less than 23 classes on her three competitive horses, Uber-G’s Mystery, Oliver and Bamboo De Rival.

She also won the prestigious Mark White Nissan League in Fourways this year and is intent on defending her equitation Derby Title shortly.

Janse van Rensburg has aspirations to compete in Europe once she finishes matric and she hopes to secure a place at Heartpury University in the United Kingdom.
