The time for the St Dunstan’s College Easter Sports Festival has arrived and the excitement among the young folk who will be participating at the multi-sport extravaganza was clearly evident at the hugely successful opening dinner at the funky Red Roman Shed at Emperors Palace on April 17.
Over a thousand keen young people attended the event.
Schools from across South Africa and Zimbabwe will compete in hockey, netball and rugby on April 18, 20 and 22.
The festival encompasses secondary school netball, rugby and hockey (girls and boys) as well as preparatory netball and rugby.
Guest speaker at the dinner Mark Hopkins, men’s national hockey side head coach, encouraged learners to be ‘life warriors’ and provided a few tips to the students towards achieving that.
He urged those in attendance to be brave in all their endeavours in life.
Local schools involved in the Easter Sports Festival are the hosts St Dunstan’s College, Benoni High School (netball and hockey), Petit High School (netball), Unity Secondary School (netball) and Hoërskool Hans Moore (girls’ hockey).
Entry is free over the three days and interested sports fans in the community are encouraged to attend.
