Record number of wrestlers attend Eastern Gauteng Open in Benoni

Wrestling folk flocked to Benoni for the open.

Eastern Gauteng Wrestling hosted the biggest Eastern Gauteng Wrestling Open in history on February 16 at the John Barrable Hall.

Gussie Bartlett of the South African Wrestling Federation (SAWF) said that 42 clubs and 549 entrants took to the mat on the day.

“It was heart-warming to see so many cadet junior and senior wrestlers competing,” she said.

“Senior Protea wrestlers Martin Erasmus, Gertjie Coetzee and Zander Geringer all enjoyed strong competitive matches against some of the up-and-coming juniors who gave them a run for their money.”
