Benoni baseball player Rowan happy to become a Rouen Huskies player in France

Rowan Ebersohn has a new French connection.

Benoni Northerns Indians Ball Club baseball star Rowan Ebersohn’s (22) excellent displays for the South African senior national team during last year’s seven-game home series against France earned him some admirers in that country.

The former Benoni High School learner was a standout figure for South Africa in their 5-2 series victory over France where he proved himself as the Most Valuable Player for the South African team.

He hit the most home runs in the French series and hit the most RBIs (runs batted in).

Now, Ebersohn (who was previously contracted to the Minnesota Twins) will play abroad again after being offered a six-month contract as an overseas player with French top-tier team the Rouen Huskies.

The Huskies’ home stadium is the Terrain Pierre Rolland which is located in the capital city of Normandy, Rouen.

Rouen has won 14 French Championships in the last 16 years.

The Benonian said the Rouen Huskies’ president got in touch with him soon after the series concluded and offered him a place in their roster for the 2019 French baseball season.

“There were about six Rouen Huskies players in the French team, so I have already met some of my new teammates,” said Ebersohn.

“I have been chatting to some of the guys on Facebook and WhatsApp and I feel at home already.

“They have made me feel welcome and I haven’t even left yet.”

The baseball player will head out to his new French home in March and is excited to play overseas again and re-establish himself as one of South Africa’s top overseas talents.
