Another win for Benoni Northerns in the Premier League

Kurt Francis and his team maintain their good start to the year.

Benoni Northerns Cricket Club’s (BNCC) Premier League XI made light work of Duduza when the two teams clashed in an Eastern Premier League fixture at Northern Areas on January 20.

The Duduzans, who were asked to bat first by BNCC skipper Kurt Francis after he won the morning coin toss, put up a better display with the bat than KwaThema did the weekend before when they were rolled for 66 runs.

The Northerns bowlers continually made inroads into the Duduza batting line-up and had them all out for 140 runs in 41.4 overs.

Joshua Thomas (3/34 in eight overs), Leonard Killian (3/28 in 10 overs) and Phumelelo Masetlane (3/23 in 7.4 overs) enjoyed the lion’s share of the wickets for BNCC.

With the bat, the Northerns willow-wielders cruised to the target in 22.3 overs.

BNCC’s opening pair of Rhenier Jordaan (who scored an almost run-a-ball 55 runs not out) and Kyle McClean (42 runs from 50 balls) got their team to a score of 94 before the latter was dismissed.

Rian van der Merwe (32 not out from 28 balls) joined Jordaan at the crease and the two batsmen carried the league leaders over the line in 22.3 overs for a bonus point, nine-wicket victory.

Francis was naturally delighted with the commanding display from his men once again.

“The boys have started hitting their strap in all departments now, and it’s looking good all round.

“With one more game to go in this half of the campaign and then moving into the top six portion of the competition we are feeling good.

“We have just got to carry our winning momentum into the next six or so games and then take that momentum into the play-offs with us, which is the ultimate goal.”

His team will hope to continue winning ways when they travel to Bedfordview Country Club for their next league fixture on January 27 against Bedfordview.
