Actonville start 2019 on the losing side in the Eastern Premier League

Not the best start for Mekyle Pillay and his side.

The second half of the 2018/2019 Eastern Premier League recommenced on January 14 with Actonvile Spurs Cricket Club (ASCC) playing host to United Cricket Club at Lords Cricket Grounds in Actonville.

It would not be the best return for the home side who were on the wrong side of a 92-run defeat.

Batting first, United posted a score of 230/8.

Ridwaan Daya (2/61 in nine overs), Zubair Turky (2/46 in nine overs), skipper Mekyle Pillay (1/20 in six overs), Zain Webster (1/27 in eight overs) and Shakeel Ahmed Hussain (1/14 in six overs) all bagged wickets for Actonville.

In their reply with the bat, ASCC could just not get it going and a top-score of just 29 runs from opener Saahil Khan was indicative of their display with the willow.

ASCC skipper Pillay said that the team wanted to start the new year on a positive note, but unfortunately, it wasn’t the case.

“We put on a sloppy performance in the field and dropped eight catches,” said the captain.

“When you don’t capitalise on your chances you are most likely going to end up on the losing side.

“It is important that we focus on what we can control and rectify our mistakes going forward.

“I know the guys will be ready and fired up come the next match.”

Actonville will next play Tembisa at Willowmoore Park’s B-field on January 20.

The first delivery is set to be bowled at 10am.
