League leading Benoni Northerns Cricket Club keep unbeaten form going in Premier League

The wins keep coming.

The table-topping Benoni Northerns Cricket Club (BNCC) Premier League XI continued their unbeaten ways in the 2018/2019 Eastern Premier League with another victory on November 25.

This time the league leaders got the better of the Brakpan-based United Cricket Club by six wickets and another bonus point when they met at Northern Areas.

Northerns, bowling first after skipper Kurt Francis won the toss and elected to field, were awesome up front and the visitors from Brakpan were in trouble at 39/5 before United skipper Justin Gamble (51 runs from 93 balls) and André Johnson (43 runs from 71 balls) steadied the ship slightly, taking their score to 127/6 when Gamble was removed.

That partnership was all the visitors could write home about though as the rest of their batting order was wrapped up within 37 overs with a score of 138 on the scoreboard.

BNCC’s Stefan Jordaan (3/37 in eight overs) and Kundai Matigimu (3/12 in seven overs) were the main catalysts with the cherry while Lance Humphrey and WP Myburgh each bagged a brace of wickets on the day.

In their reply with the bat, former United opener Vaughn Humphrey took charge of the chase, despite four wickets tumbling for BNCC.

He continued his great performances with the willow this season to notch up another half-century.

He hit 76 runs not out from 52 balls to guide his team to another win.

BNCC will play their final match of the first half of the season when they travel to PG Park in Boksburg for an away appointment with Boksburg Cricket Club on December 2.

• Meanwhile, Actonville Spurs Cricket Club lost to Kempton Park at Lords Cricket Grounds by 25 runs on a revised target due to the bit of rain that fell on Sunday.

They will next play Springs Old Boys at Lords on December 2.

The first delivery is scheduled to be bowled at 10am.
