Nerves aplenty as Benoni Indians scrape past Cardinals

It looks like it is second place for the Benoni baseballers.

Benoni Northerns Indians Ball Club’s Major A baseball team clashed with rivals Boksburg Cardinals in a Winter League clash at the Benoni diamond on August 5.

The Benoni team were looking comfortable with a 9-2 lead, but a pitching change from coach Grant Sayers saw things go slightly pear-shaped.

The teams ended up taking the game to 12 frames until the Indians managed to sneak in a win by a single point, winning 14-13.

They are all but guaranteed second place in the league behind a strong Edenvale Giants team.

Their focus will turn to the cup tournament, with the first round of matches getting underway on August 19.
