BNFC win at home, Bens lose away

A mixed bag of weekend football results for local teams.

It hasn’t been the most successful campaigns for Benoni Northerns Football Club’s (BNFC) Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) Senior Super League side.

The club’s first team has played 15 league matches this year and have won just five of those fixtures along with three draws and seven losses to find themselves lying in eighth position on the 14-team league table.

After defeat to rivals Old Bens on June 9, BNFC bounced back to winning ways against log bottom-dwellers Boksburg Football Club at Northern Areas on June 16 with a 3-1 victory in front of their home crowd.

The club’s Super Reserve League side, however, continue to march on at the top of the league.

Coach Darren Lee’s men have capitalised on slip-ups from current second-best outfit Luso Africa.

Lee’s men were on the winning side of a goal-fest when they defeated Boksburg 8-3 in the earlier game on Saturday.

Both teams are in for tough encounters when they host Sporting at Northern Areas on June 24.

The league-leading reserves kick-off at 1.45pm followed by the first team clash at 3.30pm.

• Meanwhile, Old Bens were dealt a blow to their progress up the ELFA Super League table.

They are currently lying in fourth position on the table.

Coach Raymond Cloete’s men were beaten 2-1 away versus Robertsham at Bawden Park on Saturday.

Bens, however, felt hard done by with regards to the appointed ELFA referee and some of the decisions made by the official and have sent a complaint to the referee’s association.

Their Super Reserve League side had a better day, winning 3-2 versus Robertsham in the earlier encounter.

Both sides will be in home action against Corinthians at Currin Park on June 23.

The reserves kick-off at 1.45pm followed by the first team clash at 3.30pm.
