Disabled, visually impaired deliver bowls success

Ekurhuleni is proud of them.

Visually impaired and physically disabled bowlers and their directors from Ekurhuleni district competed in the 2018 SA Open Disability Bowls Championship, held in Eden and supported by Kulula.

Bowlers from all over South Africa and some from Israel competed.

The championship was held from May 26 to June 2 at the George and Oudtshoorn bowling clubs. Bowlers competed in the pairs and singles matches, playing for up to seven hours a day, for seven days.

Jared James and his partner Gareth Rees-Gibbs won gold in the physically disabled B8 pairs, while May Homer and her director Paul Homer won silver in the visually impaired B3 women’s singles.

Beppie Summersgill and her director Cedric Summersgill won silver in the blind B1 women’s singles.

Owen James, a director from Ekurhuleni, and his bowler Steven Coleman from Peninsular won silver in the visually impaired B2 men’s singles, and gold in the visually impaired B2 pairs.
