Draw not ideal for Old Bens ahead of three big matches

Frustrated with a draw.

Old Bens Football Club’s first XI head coach Raymond Cloete was left a frustrated figure on May 26 after his team slugged to a 1-1 draw against Linhill Celtic at Currin Park on May 26.

According to Cloete, his team played the better football on the day but just couldn’t put the ball past the opponents’ goalkeeper following a number of good chances.

One Bens player who did manage to find the back of the net was Sabelo ‘Chilli’ Mathula, who scored their only goal of the day.

“We really shouldn’t have dropped points,” said Cloete.

“We hit the post a few times and were missing some players, but that’s not an excuse, we have a big enough squad to get the job done.”

The reserve team bagged a 2-0 win over their Linhill Celtic opponents in an earlier match on Saturday.

Cloete hopes his team can find winning momentum again ahead of a tough two weeks for Old Bens. They will play Alberton away on June 2, Sporting at home on June 5 and the Benoni Football Derby at home against Benoni Northerns on June 9.
