United kickboxers become national champions

The South African Kickboxing Association (SAKA) held its annual National Kickboxing championships in Valhalla, Pretoria, from April 27 to April 29.

Five Benoni youngsters from the United Martial Arts International Benoni Dojo represented the Eastern Gauteng province.

“These five youngsters cleaned house by claiming 18 medals at the national championships,” said Aslam Mohamed, chief instructor of the United Martial Arts Dojo Benoni.

Four of the five athletes became national champions.

Ahmad Mahomed won five gold medals and became a five-time national kickboxing champion for 2018.

Taahirah Cajee won five gold medals and became a five-time national champion too.

Salaamah Mahomed won four medals, two gold medals and two silver medals, to become a double national champion.

Mahmood Mahomed picked up two medals, one gold medal and one silver medal, becoming a national kickboxing champion.

Nazirah Hassen scooped two silver medals at the champs.

“These results are astonishing,” said shihan Mahomed, who is also an executive member of SAKA.

“These athletes are now selected to participate at the World Association of Kickboxing Organisations (WAKO) Junior and Cadets World Championships to be held in Venice, Italy, from September 15 to September 23.

“Congratulations to these athletes for attaining such magnificent results and making the entire Benoni proud.

“This proves that dynamite definitely comes in small packages.”
