Nienaber nabs victory close to home

Nienaber impressed in Bapsfontein.

Benoni’s Jaycee Nienaber, riding for the Holeshot Husqvarna Racing Team, competed in the third round of the Northern Regional and Gauteng Xcross Country Club (GXCC) Championship recently.

The event took place just outside Bapsfontein on April 14.

It is a new venue for the GXCC Championship and with lots of rainfall in the week leading up to the event, wet and muddy conditions were expected.

Over 450 entries competed on the day.

Nienaber once again lined up in the hotly competitive OR1 class.

Conditions at the start were wet, but Nienaber enjoyed a good start, getting the holeshot in the damp conditions.

He immediately pulled a gap but was passed by Charon Moore in the first lap.

The former Hoërskool Hans Moore learner fought back and passed Moore halfway through the race. He then pushed to keep his lead and, after six laps, he would go on to win the OR1 Northern Regions/GXCC OR1 class and claim the overall first place on his Holeshot Husqvarna FX450.

The rider will be preparing for the National Cross Country Championship that will be held on May 5 in Ceres in the Western Cape, followed by the Botswana Desert 1 000 Race that will be held from June 22 to 24.
