Same story as week before for BNFC first XI

They need to find their scoring boots.

It was again a case of clear-cut chances going astray for Benoni Northerns Football Club in the Eastern Local Football Association’s (ELFA) Super League against Germiston on April 21.

The teams drew 3-3 in Delville, but BNFC first team coach Jannie van den Berg believes his team could well have scored more to get a winning result.

“It was the same story as the match last weekend against Olympia,” he said.

“I have no problem with the way in which my players applied themselves and stuck to the game plan, but we are struggling to score.

“Yes, we did well to come back after going 2-0 down early and scoring three goals in the match, but it’s that old story of ‘we could have scored six or seven goals with the clear-cut opportunities we had.

“We’re playing well, but just not getting the run of the green lately.”

Thuthu Khumalo, Stoeney Moeketsi and Kwanda Sokutu got their names on the score sheet for Northerns.

Van den Berg knows that his team needs to get back into the points if they are to rise up the league table.

“The youngsters are extremely committed to the cause.

“We will take it game by game and try to get it right.”

Coach Darren Lee’s Reserve XI, however, have hit their straps in the ELFA Super Reserve League, romping to a 7-0 victory in the earlier match against Germiston to maintain their unbeaten start.
