Simply great at Great North champs

The young fighters did Benoni proud.

The United Martial Arts International’s Benoni team participated at the Great North 1 Championships held in Pretoria recently.

The various codes of fighting at the championships were kick-light, light-continuous, semi-points, K1, full contact and low kicks.

“Our Benoni team did exceptionally well at this championship,” said Aslam Mahomed, chief instructor of the United Martial Arts Dojo Benoni and national executive officer for the South African Kickboxing Association.

The championship saw over 350 fighters from all over Gauteng and different provinces competing.

The eight Benoni students won 15 medals at this championship.

“A proud moment for Benoni,” added the instructor.

“Thanks to our instructors sensei Jaun Naude and sensei Ashraf Mia for taking the time out to prepare these fighters for this championship.

“Our team coaches, Mahmood Mahomed, Ahmad Mahomed and sensei Mia also did a fantastic job.

“This championship was to get our athletes prepared for the National South African Kickboxing Championships which will be held in Gauteng from April 27 to April 29.”
