Sime-Riley springs to second at 2018 South African Outdoor Grand Prix

Sime-Riley is still happy with a runner-up spot.

Benoni Small Farms resident and show-jumping star Nicola Sime-Riley, owner of Sunny Park Stables, could not reclaim her 2017 South African Outdoor Grand Prix title at this year’s Nissan Easter Festival held at Kyalami Equestrian Park on Family Day.

The Benonian, riding her horse Sunny Park Stables Elpaso, finished runner-up to Ronnie Lawrence, riding Gillian van Orshof, after three gruelling rounds at the showpiece event.

She also rode her other horse Fulvic Connoisseur (seen on photo) to a fifth place finish.

Victor Ladorum for the adult 1.50m competition on Connoisseur, Sime-Riley said that both of her horses felt amazing.

“Fulvic Connoisseur jumped out of his socks including clearing the water which I was worried about as he almost always puts a foot on the tape when landing resulting in four penalties.

“But, he was on form – in fact, both horses were ‘with me’.

“They were focused and gave me their all.

“I was so close to winning but will take being crowned as ‘First Princess’ and look forward to the next show I have lined up.

“Connoisseur had a second in the first qualifier, then a first in the second qualifier and then on Monday he jumped the most amazing double clear, with it being my fault for the time penalty.

“I am absolutely over the moon with both horses.

“I just love it.

“I love being in the ring and what these horses do for me is amazing.”
