Defeat at Huntersfield Stadium for Benoni Northerns FC

Northerns suffer their first loss of the campaign.

Benoni Northerns Football Club’s Senior Super League XI head coach Jannie van den Berg believes that his team were unlucky to go down 3-1 in their away match against Zwide at the Huntersfield Stadium in Katlehong on March 17.

With Zwide taking a 2-1 lead with about 10 minutes to go in the clash, van den Berg admits that he “went for glory” by pushing a more aggressive and attacking formation.

“I played three defenders at the back and looked to attack, but they countered and got a third goal, which ended our chances of an equaliser,” he said.

After a “frustrating” 2-1 win over Bedfordview the weekend prior, the coach believes that, despite this week’s defeat, his team played better football this time around.

“We worked hard to eliminate the problems from the Bedfordview game and I think we did that.

“Zwide surprised us.

“They are not the same side as last year.

“I think they will cause a few problems for the top sides this season.”

His team will play their fourth straight away match when they travel to table-topping Kempton Park on March 24.
