Bedfordview blown away at Benoni Northerns

Benoni Northerns’ Stefan Jordaan was simply awesome with the ball.

League-leading Benoni Northerns Cricket Club’s (BNCC) Eastern Premier League One XI bowlers proved too strong for their Bedfordview opponents at Northern Areas on March 18.

It was a match that those associated with Bedfordview Cricket Club would love to forget.

It was a result, however, that will be discussed in the Benoni Northerns beer garden for some time.

Despite a delayed start, due to the rain the day before, Northerns (bowling first after skipper Kurt Francis won the morning toss) wrapped up their visitors for a paltry score of 21 runs all out in 17.1 overs.

BNCC opening bowler Stefan Jordaan was simply sublime up front.

He achieved incredible bowling figures of 3/5 in seven overs.

He was backed up well by first-change bowler Stefano di Bartolomeo who claimed a haul of 3/6 in 3.3 overs.

Despite losing one wicket in the chase, it was a comfortable 9-wicket, bonus point win for the team before lunch.

Skipper Francis praised the individual brilliance from Jordaan.

“I cannot recall ever seeing figures of seven overs, three runs for five wickets in a Premier League fixture.

“He was absolutely superb in hitting one area consistently.

“I’m over the moon with our performance and it puts us one step closer to finishing top of the Premier League standings.”

The team was scheduled to play CBC Old Boys in Boksburg on March 21 followed by a huge clash against second-placed Kempton Park at Northern Areas on March 25 that could determine the number one spot ahead of the play-offs.

Francis called on the public to get down to the game and show their support for the team.

The match is scheduled to start at 10am.
