Pre-season win number three for Northerns first rugby XV

It has been a good pre-season so far for Benoni Northerns Rugby Club.

Benoni Northerns Rugby Club played their third pre-season warm-up game at the Kempton Rugby Day on February 24.

Benoni’s second XV had a tough game against Edenvale Panthers.

With a lot of new caps in the team, they couldn’t gel in the first half and ended up trailing 26-0 at the half-time break.

In the second half they started playing better and as a team, but ended up losing 36-10.

David Sathekge and Dyllan Grobler scored a try apiece.

The first XV enjoyed another good day on the field.

They played against the hosts Kempton in a tight and defensive first half with the score 7-7 at the break.

In the second half Kempton had no reply as Benoni scored an additional 17 points.

The end result was 24-7 for Benoni, with Quin van der Nest, Viljee Cronje, Ryno Greyling and Jesse Bekker scoring a try each and Jay Botha adding two conversions.

It has been a good pre-season for the first side so far.

They won 41-12 against East Rand Police on February 17 and 31-0 against Cullinan on February 10.
