Benonian happy to be in the green and white of Bloemfontein Celtic

The Benonian has been loaned from Kaizer Chiefs to Bloemfontein Celtic.

Many South African football lovers were shocked to see Benonian Lorenzo Gordinho (23) loaned out by Kaizer Chiefs to Bloemfontein Celtic at the start of the year.

This after having made his Bafana Bafana debut in June last year and establishing himself as a Kaizer Chiefs fan favourite.

Chiefs loaned the defender to Celtic for a year as part of the deal to bring in midfielder Kabelo Mahlasela.

Gordinho played seven games for Chiefs in the 2017/2018 season before a rib injury slowed his progress.

Asked if the loan deal was a surprise to him, the former Benoni High School learner said, “I never expected it, but I welcomed the opportunity to go down to Bloemfontein Celtic and to play for them.”

Gordinho added that his main ambition this season is to perform consistently for his new club and to help the Celtics team achieve a top table position.

The defender has played three games for the club so far.

“My first few performances for the club have been good despite some unwanted results, but we are working as a team to get positive results in the upcoming games.”

Celtics’ fans are well known for being some of the best supporters in the country and Gordinho praised them for welcoming him with open arms.

“The experience has been good so far and I am happy to be here.

“The reception I received from the team and supporters have been great and I’m going to do my best and work hard to honour their confidence in me.”
