Double defeats to Kempton for Actonville sides

Kempton Park Cricket Club secured a Sunday of double victories over Actonville Spurs.

Actonville Spurs Cricket Club’s (ASCC) Premier XI suffered their second defeat of the year when they hosted defending Eastern Premier League champions Kempton Park at Lords Cricket Grounds on January 21.

The ASCC team were hoping to bounce back from the two-wicket defeat sustained at United Cricket Club’s home ground the weekend prior.

It was not to be though for the team, led this week by Mekyle Pillay.

Batting first, the Actonville willow-wielders never scored freely and stuttered along to a score of 124 all out in 48.5 overs.

The highest run-getter was number three batsman Yash Mehta with 16 runs, indicative of the low-scoring affair.

With the ball, and despite getting four wickets, Actonville could not prevent the defending champions from chasing down the score in 21.2 overs, mostly courtesy of a top score of 66 runs by opener Wesley Marshall.

CJ van der Walt’s figures of 3/41 in 7.2 overs were the best display with the leather by an ASCC bowler.

They will aim to find winning form when they travel to KwaThema on January 28.

Meanwhile, the club’s Promotion League XI was also on the losing side against Kempton Park (this time away at Kempton’s Barnard Stadium) on Sunday.

Kempton Park scored 316/9 in 50 overs, while Actonville fell short in their reply scoring 145 in 37 overs.
