Actonville beaten in Brakpan

Actonville Spurs Cricket Club’s (ASCC) Premier XI could not make it the ideal start to 2018 when they played United Cricket Club away on January 14 when the second round of fixtures for the 2017/2018 campaign commenced.

ASCC travelled to Hosking Park in Brakpan and were hoping to find winning momentum.

Batting first, Actonville found it tough going early on, losing their first five wickets for 69 runs.

A 74-run partnership between young talent Mekyle Pillay and veteran Clayton August helped steady the innings before Pillay was dismissed for 37 runs from 52 deliveries with the score at 143/6.

August fought on, but was soon dismissed for 46 runs from 75 deliveries after the wickets of Wilber van Dyk and Devon Botha were claimed.

ASCC were bowled out in the 45th over for 173 runs.

With the ball, opening bowler August proved his all-round ability.

His figures of 3/23 in nine overs were the best of the Actonville bowlers.

He enjoyed an excellent opening spell, which included two wickets and three maiden overs.

His efforts, along with spinner van Dyk’s 2/24 in five overs, proved to be in vain though as United reached the ASCC target within 39 overs with two wickets in hand to get the win.

Actonville play their first home match of 2018 against Kempton Park at Lords Cricket Grounds on January 21.

The first ball is scheduled to be bowled at 10am.

ASCC’s Promotion League XI play the same club at Kempton’s Barnard Stadium home ground on the same day.
