Ekurhuleni is driving young sporting talent

Ekurhuleni Junior Golf recognised all its juniors’ accomplishments for 2017 at a prize-giving function at Serengeti Golf and Wildlife Estate on December 3.

The union has seen a number of its young golfing talents shine on the greens and fairways both locally and internationally.

Awards were presented to the players who represented the union at quadrangular tournaments during the year:

Girls’ u-19 team: Kiera Floyd and Carmen Taljaard (three tournaments), Casandra Hall and Teagan Lubbe (two tournaments), Nicole Strydom (one tournament)

Boys’ u-13 team: Corne Jansen, Marno Lange and Hunter walker (three tournaments), Jonathan Wilsenach (two tournaments), Tyrone Groenveld (one tournament)

Boys’ u-15 team: Christopher Bagnall, John-William Blomerus and Kyle van der Merwe (three tournaments), Tyrone Lindsay and Zamokuhle Nxasana (two tournaments), Claudio Carvalho, Jacques van der Merwe and Jonathan Wilsenach (one tournament)

Boys’ u-17 team: Justin Bester, Grant Ferreira, Tromp and Joshua Wilsenach (three tournaments), Claudio Carvalho, Benji Stein and Jaryd Venter (two tournaments), Renato Dries, Tyrone Lindsay, Ishaan Mistry and Saul Moss (one tournament)

Boys’ u-19 team: Jordan Burnand, Nash de Klerk, Louis Liebenberg, Marco Massiceti, Yurav Premlall, Liam van Deventer and Ryan van Velzen (three tournaments), Casey Jarvis (two tournaments) and Warwick Purchase and Saul Moss (one tournament).

Age group award winners are:

Boys’ u-13 Player of the Year: Hunter Walker (Serengeti)

Boys’ u-15 Player of the Year: Yurav Premlall (Glendower)/Nash de Klerk (Glendower)/Casey Jarvis (State Mines)

Boys’ u-17 Player of the Year: Ryan van Velzen (Benoni Country Club).

Ryan van Velzen of Benoni Country Club is the Ekurhuleni Junior Golf u-17 Player of the Year. He is seen with Gavin Homan (first vice-president of the EGU).

Girls’ u-19 Player of the Year: Caitlyn Macnab (Ebotse Links)

Most Improved Girl Player of the Year: Kyra van Kan (Benoni Country Club)

Benoni Country Club’s Kyra van Kan is Ekurhuleni Junior Golf’s Most Improved Player. She is seen with Gavin Homan (first vice-president of the Ekurhuleni Golf Union).

Women’s President’s Award: Carmen Taljaard (ERPM)

People’s Choice Award (for loyalty, commitment, exceptional conduct and sportsmanship): Louis Liebenberg (Kempton Park)

Team of the Year Award: u-19 Ekurhuleni team (for winning three gold medals during the 2017 quadrangular tournaments)

Player of the Year Award: Jayden Schaper (Ebotse Links).

Morehill resident and Ebotse Links’ talent Jayden Schaper was announced as the Ekurhuleni Junior Golf Player of the Year. Schaper is flanked by Marlene Haig (Ekurhuleni Junior Golf co-ordinator) and Gavin Homan (first vice-president of the Ekurhuleni Golf Union).
