Wet wicket sees Northerns share the spoils

After their Eastern Premier League match against rivals Kempton Park Cricket Club was postponed the weekend prior Benoni Northerns Cricket Club’s (BNCC) Premier XI again played no cricket on November 26.

Their scheduled league fixture against Springs Old Boys was called off early on Sunday morning due to a wet wicket at Pollak Park in Springs from the heavy rainfall the day before.

Both teams received two ‘rain points’ each.

With some of their nearest league rivals getting matches in on Sunday, BNCC will hope to finally get back to playing cricket and make up some ground when they play their final match of the first half of 2017/2018 fixtures against Boksburg Cricket Club at Prince George Park on December 3.

Meanwhile, the club’s Promotion League XI bagged a 90-run victory away to Germiston on Sunday.

A wet wicket forced a delayed start and proved tough to bat on early for BNCC.

They posted a score of 189/9 in 45 overs with Brett Martindale top-scoring with 38 runs.

With the ball BNCC managed to restrict their opponents to a score of 99 to wrap up the win.

Stefano di Bartolomeo was the best of the BNCC bowlers with statistics of 4/13 in nine overs.

Like their Premier League clubmates they will also play Boksburg on Sunday at PG Park.
