Double dose of defeats for Spurs

Actonville Spurs Cricket Club’s (ASCC) Premier and Promotion League teams both suffered defeats on October 29.

Skipper Michael Enslin and his Premier XI travelled to Bedfordview and fell desperately short of victory by a mere five runs.

Batting first, Bedfordview were bowled out by the Spurs bowlers for 190 runs in 48.1 overs.

Young spinner Wilbur van Dyk was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/24 in his allotted 10 overs while CJ van der Walt (2/28 in 10 overs) and Enslin (2/28 in 5.1 overs) were the next best.

With the willow, van der Walt (52 runs) and Enslin (61 runs) were seemingly steering Actonville towards victory when the wickets started falling.

Soon they were bowled out in 41 overs, agonisingly shy of the Bedfordview score by five runs.

The club’s Promotion XI also experienced a close defeat (this time by two runs) on Sunday to CBC Old Boys at the A-Field of the Lords Cricket Grounds.

ASCC’s Premier XI will hope to put in a strong performance when they host Benoni Northerns Cricket Club in a Benoni cricket derby at Lords on Sunday, November 5.

The Promotion XI plays Daveyton at Lords B.
